Apartment Patio Design & Dessert Recipe

On Sunday evenings we like to have a nice meal on our patio area. One thing that we absolutely love about our apartment is the outdoor space. We have a brick patio but then we also have a wooden deck-like patio that is covered. Since Caleb's schedule currently requires him to work in the hospital on weekends until 7PM, we decided to bring out some lights to spruce up the space because it gets darker by the time he gets home. Here's our deck patio space and a delicious summer treat (non-vegan) that we enjoyed!

We simply used Christmas lights and some faux candles (for fire safety) and 3 candles on the table, one of which is a citronella candle to keep bugs away. Personally, citronella candles don't bother us too much with the scent, but there are ones out there with different scents that aren't as strong (for those of you who don't particularly enjoy the scent of a citronella candle.)

We used 2 empty Grolsch beer bottles for candle holders. This was Caleb's idea, and quite honestly it turned out pretty great, especially once the wax started dripping onto the bottles.

For dessert I actually used a recipe that I found on the blog She Wears Many Hats. It looked so easy and delicious that I had to try it out! It's called Honeydew Blueberry Lemon Cream Trifle and I layered it into mason jars for eating.

All it took was:

1 honeydew cubed
1 pint of blueberries (washed)
4 ounces of cream cheese (softened)
5.3 ounces of lemon greek yogurt

We used much less because there is just the 2 of us. So we used a fourth of a honeydew melon and went from there. We also couldn't find lemon greek yogurt so we used regular lemon yogurt but it was still delicious.

Mix the cream cheese and yogurt to create the lemon cream and then layer the honeydew with blue berries and the cream, then repeat until you have filled the mason jar or simply have enough to fill your tummy up!

With preparation this dessert took us about 15-20 minutes to make. Try it out and let us know how you like it! Maybe even try it out with different fruit and different flavored yogurt like strawberry! Yum!
